There will come a day when we are no longer in quarantine, it’s a fact.
Do you feel like your life is on pause?
I coach a lot of people who think Covid-19 is in control of how they feel. If you are feeling at the mercy of the outside world, I want to challenge you. Take a piece of paper and write down the thoughts you are having on the regular.
I hate this.
I just want to get back to my normal life.
This shouldn’t be happening.
I can’t wait for this to end.
This is crazy.
Can you see how each of those thoughts make you feel?
I hate this. (anger)
I just want to get back to my normal life. (frustration)
This shouldn’t be happening to me right now. (remorse)
I can’t wait for this to end. (depressed)
This is crazy. (bewildered)
So, here are the facts.
1. We are all in quarantine
2. We are choosing to think thoughts about it.
3. Our thoughts are dictating how we feel.
Can you see how this is NOT about what is going on in the world and all about what is going on in our brains?
Here is the deal. If you want to feel bad, feel bad. Imagine an inconsolable child having a temper tantrum, screaming those thoughts while pounding their fists on the floor. You wouldn’t scoff at them or be judgmental, you would be empathetic and try to inject calm or just let them work through it.
But this is our new normal people and you will never get this day back again. How do you want to show up for yourself and for the people around you? What will you learn? What is the example you will set?
How will you remember this time?
